Akern is a privately owned corporation operating since January 1980. The core business is the manufacturing of impedance based Medical Devices and innovative medical research. Right from its start up, it has enjoyed a close co-operation with its US based counterpart - RJL Systems Inc - located in Detroit, Michigan. The uninterrupted and flawless partnership has encouraged thousands of specific publications, validation studies and new applications of the bioelectrical impedence devices manufactured by the companies.
The portfolio ranges from vascular diagnosis, Z-cardiographs, body composition estimates, fluid and nutrition classification and management, to Pulsating Electro Static Fields (PESF) for metabolic modulation. By now over 30.000 worldwide users, most of them in a clinical setting, are but an indication of the all-round reliability of the results and the high manufacturing quality standards always meeting the medical devices bylaws and certifications, applicable respectively in Europe and the USA.
Medical doctors and researchers requirements are the core of our activities. Through direct and continuous exchanges of data and information with scientists and study groups, several highly innovative instruments are developed and viable clinical solutions proposed in many medical applications.
Thousands physicians are relying on Akern/RJL Systems instrumentation. Their success has proved to be the right choice. Innovative and proprietary nomograms such as the Biavector® (Piccoli et al. Am J Nutr. 1995) and the Biagram® (Talluri et al. 9th ICEBI Conference - Heidelberg, 1995) introduced a turnaround on the impedance analysis approach, mimicked recently by other BIA manufactures.
Akern has developed a growing range of products addressing the needs of the medical, research and academic communities. In addition to the manufacturing bioelectrical Impedance equipments, Akern Bioresearch is provider and promoter of new medical technologies for the health care area, ranging from minimal invasive therapy devices (New Health 9000 Pulsating Electro Static Field Therapy), screening and diagnostic equipment to detect wellness related indexes (DiD), to Nutritional Supplements for renal (Renapro®) and skin care solutions (Stardust®)
