This review analyzes the standardization of bioelectrical impedance (BIA) measurements of studies conducted in healthy pediatric populations. Standardization of methodology is essential for the clinical use of this technique. Therefore, this paper offers suggestions for improving standardization in future research.

Obesity

Bod-Pod, DXA, BIA, and anthropometry are all reliable methods for assessing body fat percentage (%BF). However, %BF obtained by Bod-Pod and BIA is significantly higher than %BF obtained by anthropometry and DXA.

Pediatric patients with chronic diseases show a prevalence of malnutrition of 56.7% among inpatients, 33.3% in outpatient and 28.3% in day-hospitals. Hospitalized patients have greater nutritional alterations, with significant correlations between malnutrition and prolonged hospitalization.
